Slovenialainen Rebeka Maršnjak, yleisen valtio-opin maisteri, vastaa Brysselissä eurooppalaisten LVI-järjestöjen katto-organisaation, REHVAn tiedotus- suhde- ja julkaisutoiminnasta.
Rebeka kertoo olleensa jo opiskeluidensa aikana aktiivisesti mukana vapaaehtoistyöntekijänä muun muassa Slovenian Global Action- yrityksessä, slovenialaisessa YK-järjestössä, sekä muissa organisaatioissa, jotka kannustavat nuoria yhteiseen tulevaisuuteen vaikuttaviksi, aktiivisiksi kansalaisiksi. ”Vapaaehtoistyön lisäksi olen aina ollut kiinnostunut vaikuttamaan sidosryhmiin ja päätöksentekoon, mikä aikoinaan johti myös edustajantehtäviin sekä paikallisella että valtakunnallisella tasolla Sloveniassa”, Rebeka kertaa aiempaa uraansa.
Nuorena Rebeka toimi energia- ja teollisuusalan toimintatapojen analyytikkona. Lisäksi yrittäjänä ollessaan hän teki töitä puunjalostusalan, aurinkoenergian ja jätehuollon markkina-analyysien parissa. Näistä syistä johtuen hän opiskeluidensa päätyttyä perusti yhdessä kahden yhtiökumppanin kanssa yrityksen, jonka palvelu edesauttoi slovenialaisia yrityksiä jakamaan edellä mainituilla aloilla parhaita käytäntöjä ja laajenemaan ulkomaisille markkinoille, erityisesti Afrikan keskialueen maihin. ”Kun aloitin yhteistyön energia- ja teollisuusalojen sidosryhmien kanssa, aloin ymmärtämään paremmin yksityisen sektorin tarpeita. Kaiken kaikkiaan tämä oli mahtava kokemus, kun olin mukana yrityksen päivittäisessä toiminnassa, erilaisissa projekteissa ja tein yhteistyötä päättäjien ja yksityisen sektorin sidosryhmien kanssa.
Euroopan Unionin parlamentista REHVAn tehtäviin
Ennen REHVAa, Rebeka työskenteli Euroopan Unionin parlamentissa, jossa hän toimi sosialistien ja demokraattien ryhmän poliittisten neuvonantajien kanssa ITREssä (Committee for Industry, Research and Energy). Hänen tehtävänsä oli analysoida ja seurata energia- ja teollisuusalan asetusehdotuksia ja muutoksia kuten EPBD, energiatehokkuusdirektiivi, uusiutuvien energialähteiden direktiiviä, monivuotista rahoituskehitystä ja niin edelleen.
Nyt REHVAn tiedotus- suhde- ja julkaisutoiminnasta vastaavana hänen tehtäviinsä kuuluu seurata ja arvioida EU:n säädännön vaikutuksia, keskittyen erityisesti energia- ja LVI-alaan. ”Teen töitä yhdessä REHVAn jäsenien ja asiantuntijoiden kanssa ja varmistan, he saavat tarvitsemansa tiedot ja kontaktoituvat EU:n instituutioiden ja muiden sidosryhmien kanssa. Tuotan siis palveluita REHVAn jäsenille ja pidän yllä yhteyksiä”.
Julkaisutehtäviin kuuluu REHVAn opaskirjojen ja lehden tuotanto ja toimituksen hallinnollinen avustaminen. ”Olen mukana ja koordinoin REHVAn julkaisu- ja markkinointitoimikunnan (PMC, Publishing and Marketing Committee) toimintaa sekä (COP, Cooperation group) yhteistoimintaryhmää. Tammikuusta 2019 lähtien Rebeka toimii REHVAn EU Policy and International Relations Officer -tehtävissä.
LVI on merkittävä ala
Henkilökohtaisesti Rebeka näkee LVI:n merkittävimpänä alana, joka vaikuttaa eurooppalaisten rakennusten kunnostustöissä ja samalla edesauttaa Euroopan Unionin ilmastopoliittisten tavoitteiden saavuttamista. ”EU lainsäädäntö selvästi synnyttää niin monia uusia innovaatioita, jotka tulevat vaikuttamaan pitkän aikavälin suunnitteluun ja samaan aikaan se vaikuttaa alan toimintatapoihin parantaen niitä. Työni LVI-sektorilla on täydellinen sekoitus teknologiaa, innovointia ja lainsäädäntöä. Rakentamisen ala lisää tietoisuutta terveellisten sisäolosuhteiden merkityksestä ja uskon, että meidän, yhdessä jäsentemme kanssa, tulee myös puhua tuon asian puolesta.
Tämän lisäksi Rebekaa motivoi, että hän työnsä kautta tapaa niin työhönsä intohimoisesti suhtautuvia henkilöitä, sekä yrityksiä, jotka tuovat uusia innovaatioita alalle, tehden tunnetuksi LVI-alan merkittävää roolia energiatehokkaassa rakentamisessa ja terveellisten sisäolosuhteiden luomisessa.
Rebeka Maršnjak EU public affairs and publications assistant of REHVA
Rebeka Maršnjak, coming from Slovenia and holding master’s degree in political science. Currently working in Brussels at REHVA as EU public affairs and publications assistant.
During my studies l have always been active volunteer in the field of advocacy within organizations such as United Nations Association Slovenia, Slovenian Global Action and others with the aim to advocate the role of youth people to become active citizens in shaping our future together. Beside volunteering l have been curios in influencing different policy makers and stakeholders to “have a say”, which (back then) brought me to be politically active representative at local and national level in Slovenia.
My previous experiences describe me as a policy researcher and analyst, especially in the energy and industry field. Besides that, as a young entrepreneur, I was dealing with market analysis in the wood processing sector, solar energy and waste management field. Due to this, after studies l launched a company, together with 2 more partners to ensure Slovenian enterprises the transfer of their best practices in the field of wood processing industry, solar energy, etc. to provide them easier entrance to the foreign markets, especially Central African Market. When started to work actively in energy and industry field and closely with different stakeholders, I received a better insight into the needs of the private sector. Overall, all this was a great experience of managing the daily agenda of the company, launching projects and cooperate with various policy makers and private stakeholders.
Before coming to REHVA, l got an opportunity to work in the European Parliament where l was working together with the political advisers at ITRE (Committee for Industry, Research and Energy) within the S&D political group. I was analyzing and following the legislative proposals and amendments in the industry and energy policy area such as EPBD, Energy Efficiency Directive, Renewables Directive, Multiannual financial framework and many others.
At REHVA, I am currently working as an EU Public Affairs and publications assistant. Therefore, in the field of the EU public affairs l monitor and assess the impact of the relevant EU policy developments, with a strong focus on energy and HVAC sector, working with REHVA members and experts to ensure them timely information, establishing contacts with EU institutions and different stakeholders. Thus, also assisting in keeping liaison and provide services to REHVA members.
Within publication tasks, I am working directly on the production of REHVA guidebooks and Journal, supporting editorial staff with the administration related to commissioning, planning and coordinating. I am actively involved and coordinate REHVA PMC (Publishing and Marketing Committee) and COP (Cooperation group) Committees. From January 2019, Rebeka will continue her work as EU Policy and International Relations Officer for REHVA.
Personally, I see the HVAC sector as one of the most growing sectors that can contribute to the renovation of Europe and at the same time reaching the EU climate targets. While monitoring the EU legislation in that field, it is obviously bringing up so many new opportunities for new innovations that contribute to a long-term planning and at the same time influencing and improving EU policies in that field. In that way, l see the HVAC sector as an open place to be creative and to perfectly mix technical and innovation part together with the advocacy. I believe that building sector is bringing up the awareness of the indoor health environment and we as one of the representatives of this sector, with all members we should advocate this awareness at all levels.
The reason that additionally motivates me as a policy expert is that while working at REHVA I am meeting so many passionate individuals and companies to push and work on new innovations and making the HVAC recognized at the supranational level as an important sector in fostering for energy efficient building sector and the importance of the indoor health environment.
